Convert an obj.file to dae.file
« on: March 06, 2018, 10:01:00 AM »
Hello all,

I've tried to upload an obj.file to Meshmixer but I receive the following error:

Error opening file:

I've created the obj.file with another software (Agisoft Photoscan) but why it is not possible to open this file in Meshmixer?

Afterwards I would like to convert this obj.file to a dae.file. Or do you know if I need to follow another process or use another program? Is it actually possible to convert a obj.file to a dae.file ?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

No problems here to import .obj from Photoscan (as long as the texture isn't in .exr format - if so: it will be red all over).

Can you open it in some other third party software?
Do you run Import from within MM or do you try "open with" from your file browser?
Assuming it's a textured .obj: Are its .mtl and its texture image in the same directory along with the .obj?

Of course you can convert a .obj to a .dae ( in MM as well as in other soft)
But being not that familiar using .dae ..... Seems MM to .dae export supports the mesh only but no texture.

Meshlab supports textured conversion.

BTW: Photoscan supports export to .dae directly

I'm just a user as you are. Being no Autodesk employee: I do not know where this road will lead to, nor do I claim to've all stuff got right.
