meshmixer 2.8
« on: January 30, 2015, 01:58:51 PM »
Hello everyone - sorry for not replying to your posts, I was busy working on a 3D-printing project

But in the meantime, the rest of the meshmixer team was busy making a big addition - We now support save/load to your 123D Account, directly inside meshmixer.

My guess is that most of you on this forum do not have a 123D account, but there are lots of reasons you might want to consider signing up:

- The free account gives you unlimited cloud storage, so you can save on one computer and open on another, or share with other people. If you are using meshmixer in an educational setting, this is a great way to distribute files to your students.
- If you use 123D Sculpt+ on IPad (which is a great app) you can easily import your files into meshmixer
- You can also load your 123D Catch files directly into meshmixer (if you use Catch you already have a 123D Account, you just have to log in inside meshmixer)

Even if you don't use a 123D Account, you should check out the Gallery, which has a ton of free models to play with. In particular, if you change the sorting from "featured" to "popular", you will find a lot of recognizable models to experiment with. It is a great thing to have available if you are showing meshmixer to someone else (particularly kids!)

I did manage to sneak in a few small improvements:
- you now stay in the selection tool when you do face deletions (this was a forum request)
- we improved SLA support structures, and added a preset for the new Autodesk Ember printer
- support auto-generation now places the result on the print bed
- double-click inside selection tool now does a flood-fill in Vertex Color mode, instead of a select-face-group
- misc small bugfixes

My honest respect for what you did to support this humanity printing project!

@the bridge to 123D:
Due to the flles' sizes downloading 3D content might last some while... During download there's no way to cancel the download but harsh killing MM (at least at MAC). Maybe you consider a Cancel Download button?

thanks, as always, for your work!

I'm just a user as you are. Being no Autodesk employee: I do not know where this road will lead to, nor do I claim to've all stuff got right.

Thank you for the new version.

Is it possible to just install it over the old one?

Thanks for another update! I love the program, I have been promoting it a bit on Thingiverse. I use MM a lot to create printable files of scans and to orient and scale for instance.
What happened to the align tool, before I clicked on a surface to align it to the Y axis/grid (Z axis for 3D printing) but now it's upside down when I do this. What has changed, is it an improvement?

Dracon: Yes, you can install over the old one.

3DWP: Sorry, perhaps a regression. I will look into it. In the meantime, use the big blue arrow to flip it after you align?

No need to say sorry  :) Align tool now starts as ''Move to origin'', I tried some things but don't see a difference - it moves the origin I guess.
The blue arrow after aligning plane works, thanks!

I change the default functionality, and renamed the options, to make it less confusing for novices. The majority of users just want the "Move to Origin" mode, which was previous called "AABox". The old default action is the "To Last Plane" mode, which you will have to manually switch to.

Meshmixer 10.8.126...crashing after upgrade
« Reply #9 on: February 02, 2015, 10:01:33 PM »
Help, I was prompted to install a new version of Meshmixer, did it, and now after upgrading, the program is crashing everytime I import an STL or OBJ, including the bunny.

With the prior version, it was working great.

Any ideas?

I am running Windows 8.  Makerbot Desktop and Netfabb Professional are running at the same time and have never been a problem in the past.

The first thing to try is deleting your meshmixer.ini (in c:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk). Then re-start.

If that doesn't work, try opening the About box (under Help menu) and un-checking the option to provide anonymous usage data, and then re-start.

If that doesn't work, please send in your log file (Help menu, Show Application Log) to meshmixer@autodesk.com, and then go back to 2.7

(Sorry. We seem to be having some problems with the Qt user-interface library we use, that only occur for some percentage of users, and hardly ever happen on our development machines...)

Re: meshmixer 2.8,...where can I download 2.7
« Reply #11 on: February 03, 2015, 07:34:08 PM »
So I need to reinstall 2.7 since 2.8 does not work for me.  Is there a place where I can download it?  Never mind, I found a copy in my downloads!
