Announcements / Meshmixer 3.1
« on: March 29, 2017, 11:56:19 AM »
Meshmixer 3.1 is now available! Download it here: http://meshmixer.com/download.html

In this release we stabilized many core features, and eliminated crashes related to 123D. We're also very proud that Meshmixer 3.1 is fully translated into Japanese! In addition, Meshmixer installs faster, and now supports high-resolution displays.

Find all the details on the many other bug fixes in the full list of release notes below.

NOTE: this release requires graphics card drivers update to support the latest version of OpenGL

- decoupled from 123D
- completed Japanese version of Meshmixer
- reduced install size
- updated hotkey help files
- automatic support for high-DPI displays on Windows
- improvement to Help menu
- removed third-party print services that weren't really working anyways
- hotbox improvement: using Shift+Space will keep the hot box open until you hit escape
- new command line parameter: "--yup", which forces y axis to be the vertical axis, overriding the config setting
- preserve settings for Uniform Scaling, Add Tube
- save support structure generation settings in Overhangs tool as custom Presets
- updated existing analytics functionality
- API scripting improvements related to C#
- new simplified Print UI/workflow
- ported to Qt5
- sample printer definition included in meshmixer folder, in \meshmixer\printers\ . Copy and edit custom_printers.xml to add your own printers, they appear under Custom in printers panel. You can have multiple printers in the same file. Note that the custom_printers.xml file itself may be replaced by future installers, so put your printer in a copy!
- added read/write support for 3MF file format, with colors and uv-mapped textures
- revamped the Advanced Support properties panel
- improved Thickness analysis, various new parameters and can bake thickness colormap to vertex colors
- Orientation tool now can use print bed as volume constraint (and revamped property panel)
- added support for meters and feet in Units
- Clearance and Deviation now display min/max measured values in panels
- can now assign materials to objects individually. Drag-drop onto background to set scene-level material. Drag-drop onto object to set for object. Hold shift while drag-dropping material to set for all objects in scene.
- added Height Field mode to Fit Primitive
- added resolution control to Fit Primitive
- added Most-Recently-Used files list

- fixed having an odd angle when adding a tube at a pivot point.
- fixed recently used colors and palette in the color picker for Windows.
- fixed picking in Orientation tool.
- fixed "Send to Makerbot Desktop"
- fixed UI button behavior
- fixed bug in taking screenshots when making part for Meshmix
- fixed screen goes black after exporting an OBJ

Linux / Re: Any chance on getting a package for ubuntu 16.04?
« on: March 16, 2017, 05:59:48 PM »
Thank you for your feedback and your interest in the Linux version of Meshmixer. At the moment, Meshmixer team is very small and doesn't have a dedicated Linux developer. If the team grows in the future we can consider adding it to the roadmap. Meshmixer is a free software and we're working with a limited budget. Thank you for understanding!

If you're experiencing any difficulties with this Beta please update your graphics card drivers first. You need the latest drivers to support newer technology.

Beta / beta 3.1.322
« on: February 16, 2017, 04:48:12 PM »
Hi, Everyone!

Please check out our new Beta 3.1.322 posted on February 16: http://meshmixer.com/beta.html. (Happy belated Valentine's from the Meshmixer team!)

We've made some core changes to the OpenGL code and a few other important things. Please test it on your machines ASAP before we incorporate this Beta in the next full release! If you experience a crash or a black screen, or if something is not rendering properly, please 1) update your graphics card drivers, 2) try again and send us your bug report if it's still happening.

When submitting a bug, please include:
- Steps to reproduce it
- Your OS version and Meshmixer version
- Screenshots
- Your file (if it’s applicable)

If this Beta passes your validation, it'll be a great candidate for the next full release!

Happy Testing!

Beta / beta 3.1.283
« on: January 23, 2017, 05:11:08 PM »
Hello, Meshmixer Community!

This is our first Beta release since Ryan has left Autodesk. We’ve spent some time revitalizing and stabilizing Meshmixer. Kudos to Tyson, Simon, Hali and everyone involved! First of all, defunct 123D functionality is gone, which should improve the performance and eliminate some crashes. Second, the Japanese version of Meshmixer should be now complete. And, of course, there were many crazy bug fixes: http://meshmixer.com/beta.html
Please give it a try!

We are thinking of releasing another Beta before the next major release of Meshmixer 3.1 because we would like to do more testing iterations with you. In the past few months you’ve reported a good number of bugs, and we’ve tried to fix as many as we can. The more you help us test now, the more bug fixes we can include in the major release. Please remember that Betas are unstable builds that can contain new bugs.

Give this Meshmixer Beta 3.1.283 a thorough spin, especially in the next week or two, and send us your feedback!

When submitting a bug, please include:
  • Steps to reproduce it
  • Your OS version and Meshmixer version
  • Screenshots
  • Your file (if it’s applicable)

Happy Testing!

Bug Reports / Re: Artifacts while sculpting
« on: January 18, 2017, 12:03:25 PM »
Pixel Artifacts:
The problem is that in your mesh, some of the triangles do not have textures. Likely this is inherited from the scanning software you are using. These get a default color, which yes is probably white or red in most software.
Meshmixer can repair this but you have to do it manually. An easy way is to paint the grey triangles with Select, then expand once by hitting ">", then do a fill by hitting "f".
This will replace the area with new triangles that have colors interpolated from the surrounding area.
(This is the most precise way, but you can also use a bigger brush, if the precise shape isn't so important and you want to get done quicker).

Bug Reporting:
Will be fixed in 3.1, for now use meshmixerbug@autodesk.com

For other issues please send your model, screenshots and steps to reproduce.

Yes, the update is coming soon. I will add an announcement to the forum when it's ready.

Ryan is doing great, he's working on this project right now: http://www.gradientspace.com/
When I see him later this week for drinks I'll let him know you said hi.  ;)

Some of you were asking about the system requirements. We've posted them on meshmixer.com:
  • Microsoft Windows 7 or later or OS X / macOS 10.7 or later
  • 4GB system RAM
  • Integrated or discrete graphics card
You can probably get away with less but at your own risk.

Happy meshmixing!
