Bug Reports / Centering a model
« on: January 21, 2018, 03:14:03 PM »
I have a question that might be a bug report but I'm never sure with Meshmixer as it isn't always intuitive (I do love it by the way!).

I still use an old version of MM as I almost daily use it to arange 3D models - I want to center them all the same to make working with them more easy.

In version number 10.10.170 (version 2.7 maybe?) when I would click the print icon it would instantly center my model on the build platform.

I have downloaded and tested lots of versipns since but the print tool has changed, I see also a packing tool but this takes ages and doesn't work for me. I doesn't place the models dead center flat on the origin:

Nice, thanks! I had an older version installed as I use the automatic centering of the model under Print very often.

How do I do this now, is this the packing tool? That isn't working for me in this version, it takes very long and doesn't center the model. In the old program the model would be automatically set in the middle on the build platform which was ideal and very fast by the way.. Can I get this back somehow?

Questions & Troubleshooting / Viewing and editing inside a mesh
« on: January 10, 2018, 05:06:33 AM »
Hello,

I couldn't find info on this and I have been trying to do this a few times over the years:

I have made a mesh hollow for 3D printing. Sometimes I add a hole on the bottom and sometimes not. How can I edit the inside surface. I would like to resculpt some parts but is there a way to change the view easily? The outside surfaces are in the way. I could maybe cut them and try to join them later but that seems too destructive..

Well Google has the answer  ;)

I hope that helps.

I am trying the Beta version, had one crash when I did a plane cut with Fixed fill, Remeshed fill didn't crash.

I use the (3D) Print screen a lot, this used to align my model in the center of a print bed and I could also scale and orient it there. I can not find any way to do this it's driving me crazy. There's a weird popup too with ''meshmixer'' and ''export'' that doesn't do anything when there are two (?). When clicked it does export but the popup screen looks odd.

Also when I open a model and MeshMixer starts the Z-Y isn't flipped. If I import something and have the option ticked it does work. I mainly 3D print so my MeshMixer Y axis is the Z axis for my models (height), can this be fixed?

How can I get a model to center now? So the origin I would like in the middle but the bottom of a model flat on a print bed.

That is nice news, thanks for reaching out and letting us know!
I hope Ryan/RMS is doing well and he will be missed  :-[

I hope to see an update soon and MeshMixer will be kept alive, it's such a great piece of software.

Well if Autodesk wants to continue development of MeshMixer I only know of one person who knows just about everything there is to know:

MagWeb/Gunter

This forum and MeshMixer would be in great hands with him..

Questions & Troubleshooting / Re: 123D apps

Still, I see MM isn't an 123D app anymore..  :-[
How come? I bought a Premium Autodesk subscription mainly for MeshMixer, what does this mean for my use of MeshMixer? I read somebody mentioning MM wil become part of Fusion360, is that true and what does that mean?

I have just seen the video of Maker's Muse that the latest beta (3.1.118) of MeshMixer has been improved a lot concerning the make Solid tool, have there been changes made like project Miller's awesome power? Or are there really settings I missed?

Video is here by the way, he does great and informative clips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ECNP3WN_-Q

Hi,

I have used Autodesk Project Miller at the time, I believe it's test results have been used to add the Make solid tool in MeshMixer.

However: I haven't been able to get close to the results I had with Project Miller, that worked every time after you chose the strenghth of the effect (coarse to fine, extreme etc).

Does anybody know what I mean and how to set the MeshMixer Make solid tool so that I can fix hard to print models without the mesh turning into Swiss cheese? I never had that with PM..

I know you can set the quality higher than 512 but then it just takes forever without the results I would like.

Questions & Troubleshooting / 123D apps
« on: May 25, 2016, 01:50:05 PM »
Since a while I noticed MeshMixer isn't on the 123D app list anymore, the Autodesk website is now forwarded to meshmixer.com too. Is MeshMixer still from Autodesk? The 123D models don't list MeshMixer anymore either. Is there a reason for this? I think Autodesk should give more attention to MM..
