This is amazing! Thank you so much for your example! This is so cool to see in action!

Thanks MagWeb. I finally understand scene vs world and why the conversion changes.

In I am not getting the results I expect, and am not sure why. This example creates a ray from far away starts it at that point and then aims it towards my object along the Z+ axis towards the center of my bounding box correct?

So if I import a cube and place the center at (0,0,0) with one of the faces lined up with the Z-axis  before running the example I would expect my result for where the ray hit to be something along the lines of (0,0,+Z) where +Z depends on the actual size of my cube.

Instead for a cube that is 10mm in each direction I am getting the result of :

hit:  True  world pos:  (-0.0029391050338745117, -0.0010218620300292969, -0.48660945892333984)

Wouldn't the world coordinates be expected to be (0,0,+5)?

This is really stumping me.

Also on a side note. Can the measure tool be used through the API? for instance to tell how thick a piece of a model is? Thanks

Can anyone explain to me the difference between scene vs world position and how ray casting works? I've been tinkering with MMAPI and this just keeps leaving me stumped.

It worked perfectly. Thanks MagWeb!

This is amazing and exactly what I was looking for. You rock!

One more question for you about the MMAPI:

In the demo Transform_obj it takes a cylinder object and moves it to a selected facegroup, is it possible to do this with an stl file instead of a .obj? If not, is there a way to convert an .stl into a .obj using MMAPI?

I had one idea using RMS' meshconvert but can't quite figure out how to make it do the job from inside python, and think there is probably an easier way.

Thank you!

How can I use MMAPI to select a facegroup without having to do it manually? I'm reading everything and can't figure it out. Thanks!

You may have luck using origin instead of normal.

Scripting / API Help / Engraving or embossing text
« on: February 09, 2018, 12:35:54 PM »
Hi all,
Is there currently any way to engrave or emboss text on a mesh using input from a prompt? The only idea I have is to have python  turn the text into a PNG and then somehow stenciling it onto the mesh and doing extrude but this seems extremely complicated. I have also been looking into doing it in opencad and then having MM import the object.

Any help is appreciated!
